Fraserville with PepsiCo Beverages and Pioneer Gas Station in the Foreground and Kawartha Downs in the Distance

By Guy Scott

Fraserville is a crossroads hamlet on Highway 28 west of Peterborough. Straddling the boundary between Cavan and South Monaghan Townships, it received its first post office in 1876. Its most recognizable structure used to be the United Church, but today Fraserville is home to Kawartha Downs, which is the local area’s only racetrack. The racetrack was opened in 1972 and replaced horse racing previously held at Morrow Park in Downtown Peterborough. In 1999, the track got a boost with the addition of slot machines licensed under the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission. In 2007, a Soap Box Derby track nicknamed ‘Gravity Cavity’ was added. Kawartha Downs and Speedway has been a real boon to the local area as a revenue and employment addition.
