Lakeside Park in Fenelon Falls has a new name. It’s now called Garnet Graham Lakeside Park after the well-known, well-liked and very deserving Fenelon resident who is better known around town as Mr. YIP Stick.

Garnet, with his sidekick Bobby Boo—his wonder dog that can add, subtract, multiply and divide not to mention a number of other skillful and cute tricks, performs a magic act for kids, adults and tourists of all ages in his backyard and around town.

His famous YIP Sticks have helped Garnet raise money, which he has contributed to the park that has been named for him as well as contributing to other community organizations.

Council members and the town managed to keep the renaming of the park a secret from Garnet who commented: “It was a surprise, it was marvellous!” Garnet stood beside his new plaque as Reeve Barclay Taylor and friends spoke on his behalf. “I feel really good. I think it’s a deserving tribute to a man who has put his soul into the community and especially the park,” said Reeve Taylor.

Chuck Skiles, president of the Rotary Club commented, “I feet it should have been done many years ago and we (the Rotary Club) wholeheartedly support it.”

After the formalities, Garnet was greeted by many friends who were present for the official unveiling of the new “Garnet Graham Lakeside Park,” sign.
