Fenelon Falls Continuation School Report, Form III, January to March 1927
Well into the twentieth century students’ marks were public knowledge, and teachers did not go easy with the grading. A lot of students failed and that meant having to repeat the subject, not a mercy pass. Students were also ranked, from the best student to the worst—and every kid knew exactly where everyone else stood. In 1927, the top student in Form III at Fenelon Falls Continuation School (now FFSS) had a 77 average. A 65 average would make you a good student. How very different things were back then!
