Bobcaygeon Celebrates the Platinum Jubilee

June 4, 2022

The Beacon Lighting Ceremony at Kawartha Settlers Village

On June 2, Bobcaygeon celebrated Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. Over her 70 years of service, the Queen has been admired by many throughout the commonwealth. To mark the occasion, Bobcaygeon hosted a beacon lighting ceremony, coincident with 1500 similar events throughout the royal dominion.

Festivities kicked off downtown as many local dignitaries attended the official town crier proclamation on Bolton Street, in front of the Wheatsheaf Café and Stewart Morrison Insurance. The beacon lighting took place at Kawartha Settlers Village and was well attended.

The Bobcaygeon Lions Club hosted a barbeque, North Country Express sang many favourites, the committee hosted a fascinator making activity, while volunteers from Settlers’ Village and Maryboro Lodge put on many royally fun family activities. The Bobcaygeon Jubilee Choir formed specifically for the event and performed “A Life Lived with Grace,” a special composition for the ceremonies throughout the commonwealth. The beacon was lit in front of the Murphy Barn at 9:15, just at dusk, creating quite a spectacle. The jubilee was a joyous occasion for all who attended.
