Bill Scott’s Ginger Cookies

Bill Scott was a Kinmount grocer, who served as the Member of Parliament for Victoria-Haliburton from 1965 to 1993. Bill was well known throughout the region and had a wonderful ability to befriend families. He was great at promoting the village of Kinmount, and spent countless hours building up the Kinmount Fair. Though baking was not something he had a lot of time to do, he did have a favourite recipe for Ginger Cookies.

  • ¾ cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon ginger – generous
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 cups flour

  • Cream butter and sugar, and add beaten egg.
  • Sift flour, ginger, soda and cream of tartar 4 times and mix.
  • Roll small quantity like a ball.
  • Criss-cross with a fork on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 6 or 7 minutes or until a golden shade.
