Kahgegagahbowh grew up at Rice Lake, became a Methodist minister and missionary. Forced to leave his community over an accounting scandal, he wrote an autobiography that instantly became a best seller and transformed him into an internationally-known celebrity. It provides his unique experience of childhood at Rice Lake in the first half of the nineteenth century.
