Originally designed to handle commercial shipping traffic, the Kirkfield Lift Lock has spent most of its career moving recreational boaters up and over the summit of the Trent-Severn Waterway system. In this view, captured at some point during the 1960s, private pleasurecraft have replaced the fleets of steam vessels which once navigated these waters en route to and from Lake Simcoe.
