Samuel Hooper, of “The Red Store”

Samuel Hooper, of “The Red Store” was an employee (circa 1889-1890) of William Burgoyne. This entry is included to show how the newspapers can give the wrong impression of who owned a business. Hand makes several passing references to Samuel Hooper of the “Red Store” [FFG 7 June 1889; 5 : FFG 3 Jan 1890; 5]. Of course everyone in 1889 knew the Red Store was owned by William Burgoyne, but that is a detail the contemporary reader might overlook.
