James Renton

James Renton and “Mr. Penton” may be the same man as both were watchmakers and jewelers and both were in the village about the same period. “We are to have a second watch-maker and jeweller in the village, a Mr. Penton, of Toronto, who comes well recommended as a first class, practical man” [CP 10 August 1877; 3] D&B records a James Renton in the village in 1878, so I suspect they are the same man. Renton’s business lasted about a year.

643 The other watchmaker was N. Culp, who left in October 1877.
