CLARK, A. (Alexander), Jr., 1863-
Tailor … (1885- [1901?])
[Agents – Insurance] [1900-1902]
Alexander Clark Jr. was the son of Alexander Sr. and Sarah McDougall Clark [1834?]-1918. He arrived in FF with his parents in 1884 and was taken into partnership in his father’s tailoring establishment, where he worked alongside his father and brother. Alexander Jr. and his brother John would often go on buying trips for the firm to Toronto [FFG 21 Aug 1891; 4], or take orders from other communities such as Kinmount, Minden and Haliburton [FFG 13 Nov 1891; 4].
Around 1900 Alexander, Jr., ʺwent into the life insurance businessʺ. His father’s tailoring shop closed the following year (1901). Clark sold his house on Oak Street in June 1902 to William Jordan; Clark and his family then moved to Lindsay [FFG 20 June 1902; 4]. His brother John and family left the village in September for Little Rock, Arkansas [FFG 5 Sept 1902; 4].
Although he frequently returned to the village to assist his father and as a visitor, he never to lived here again. The Clarks moved to Toronto in 1935 [FFG 28 Aug 1941; 1].
