Barrett Brothers

The Barrett brothers (David and John [?]) were from Lindsay, and either purchased or leased the bakery and grocery business of John Moffat (who was retiring) in April 1885 [FFG 18 April 1885; 2].” They have put in a large new stock of fresh groceries and fruit, and no doubt will do a rushing trade, both being popular young men” [CP 8 May 1885; 8].

David Barrett was, formerly, a resident of the Falls having lived with his uncle William Marshall who operated a bakery here for many years. The brothers sold out to the Cain Brothers of Bobcaygeon one year later and in April 1886 announced they were moving to Toronto [CP 9 April 1886; 1].

7 Variant spelling: Barret. David was born [1860?] & John [?] in [1856?].

8 The Gazette says that Moffat sold his bakery. The Canadian Post states the Barretts leased it [CP 8 May 1885; 8].
