Although there is no record of a business, Hand recorded that Andrew Meldrum left the village “four years ago” … “where he worked at the blacksmithing trade…” [FFG 20 Jan 1883; 2]. He then left for Midland, and after that the United States where he was reputed to have made some money in Colorado gold mines. In January 1883 he visited his sister-in-law at the Falls but was leaving for Flesherton, whereas a “young, single and anything but homely” man, “he will probably be an object of much interest…” Hand also notes that Meldrum will return to Colorado in the spring.
