The following appeared in the Canadian Post in 1876 [13 Oct 1876; 3]: “A grain market has at last been opened here by a Mr. A. Macauly… [This is the] first real benefit received from the railway…” “The establishment of a grain market by Mr. Macauly is already making a little money move around, and saves hauling to Lindsay… [The] fall ploughing is getting along better in consequence.” [CP 20 Oct 1876; 3] There are no other references to the market and it may not have lasted out the season.
