Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is a series of descents on the Black River, near the west end of the Wilderness Section of the Ganaraska Trail. It is located about 26 kilometres north east of Sebright, on a narrow on rocky road through the woods. In the 1860s, the Ontario government tried to open this area for agricultural settlement with the Victoria Road, however, few farmers were interested in tilling the rocky lands. The route was abandoned north of Uphill. The ghost town of Ragged Rapids is not far from Victoria Falls. It soon became evident that harvesting the forests was a far more promising venture than rock farming. But since the initial rush to harvest the virgin pine, the forests have regrown. Today, Victoria Falls is a relatively secluded, though beautiful site on both a canoe and hiking trails. The wilderness section of the Ganaraska Trail is remote and challenging.
