Altberg Wildlife Sanctuary
Ontario Nature’s largest nature reserve is near Norland on the Monck Road, lovingly maintained by the Kawartha Field Naturalists Originally privately owned by Rudolf Altberg, it is located on Corben Creek, as it winds its way down to Four Mile Lake. It’s a wonderful place to visit for hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, and appreciating its unique ecosystem. Largely covered with hardwoods forests, it is home to many song birds and plants like the moccasin flower, northern beech fern and showy lady’s slipper.
